Night book review

Elie Wiesel‘s book Night haunted me with its story of Elie surviving the Holocaust. I believe that every person should take the time to read this book.

The theme of this book could be never give up. Elie was close to breaking down through the hardships he endured while in the concentration camps, but never gave up and died with millions of others. The author’s style is strait forward and easy to read. It made me feel as though I was actually with him in the camps. It is very unique because of the fact that it had really happened.

Main Characters in Night include mostly just Elie and his father. Elie and his father are separated from their family when they arrive at the first camp. They meet many others that they get separated from such as one of their family members they did not usually see otherwise.

The setting for the most part is with in concentration camps in Europe during the Holocaust. Nazis slaughter Jews in the death camps that they pass on the way to the camp that Elie and his father go to. Living conditions were poor. People die from starvation because of the lack of food. They live in close spaces with no sanitation. The plot is a great one because when Elie makes you think it’s about to be over it is not. The book is not long but he draws out the ending.

I would recommend this novel to anyone who would like to learn about the Holocaust. The novel will help anyone have a better understanding of what actually happened to people during this terrible time. It was a good book.

Completing of junior year...thoughts

I am happy to be completing my junior year. This year has been a long one, and had many good times and bad times during it. The main points in my year include soccer, school work, and friends.

The beginning of soccer turned out to be very good. A week before the first game I tore some ligaments in my knee in half in off season football. After that happened, I decided to not do football and just do soccer for now on. I was in the hospital for a week and at home for another week. Our team did not win conference, but still got to go to the state tournament. I recovered quick and got to play in the state games. We won the first state match. We lost the second to the team that ended up winning the tournament. Our team is only going to lose one starter next year so we should do very well.

School over all was good. I had above a three point four all year long and took the ACT once. I did not do to well on it though. I scored a nineteen because I failed to take it seriously enough and did not get any sleep because I had a lot of friends over at my house the night before so I had did not sleep any that night. School work was easier after I got my laptop for Christmas. It helps a ton for getting things done at home.

After school and on the weekends was great. My friends and I were always up to something crazy and fun. I started going out with my girlfriend Riley on December nineteenth. Shes one of the best things in my life. On the weekends, I would be with her or running around with my friends. We play soccer, Xbox Live, and just chill.

This year overall was alright. It proved to be easy like classes before have said. The year was a little boring compared to last though.

Haiku

Holocaust was bad
Segregation, murdering
Few made it throgh it

Thoughts on Holocaust Research

The Holocaust proved to be a horrible time in history. The research that I have found about the Holocaust has taught me a lot more than what I knew before about this subject. I think that everyone should learn about the Holocaust even though it is a terrible topic to discuss.

I found that a lot more people were murdered than what I thought before. Millions were murdered by the Nazis with various different methods. They killed them in gas chambers, on the range where they shot them, and by burning them alive.

Another thing I learned from my research is that they did not give people very much food so they would eventually die without them having to kill them. I thought that they did not feed them much just to be cruel, but they were in fact trying to kill them. Gas chambers were the most effective way to kill the Jews off.

I learned that the reason so many hate communism is because this happened in a communist country. People do not want something like that to ever happen again. Every time something the government does something that even looks like they are being communistic then people start to get mad because no one wants to fall into a communistic society.

The things I have learned from my research has helped me understand how other countries are like and how things could turn out if my country ever falls into communism.

Favorite web based tech. tool

Many web tools help people in many different ways. My favorites include web tools such as search engines, Microsoft office, and blogging. These tools are tools that I use often and help me do school projects.

Search engines such as google, yahoo, and ask come in handy in everyday life. Whenever you need to look something up to find out what it is used for or anything of that sort, these search engines will give you free answers. These engines can help you find web pages that have information that you can use for whatever you need at the time.

Microsoft office is a tool that has features that include excel, word, and PowerPoint. Excel helps make tables and graphs for work, school, and anything else. Word contributes to writing papers, making resumes, or anything that needs to be typed out. Power points are good for making presentations for a topic in which you are studying or making something for work.

Blogging lets you express yourself over the Internet with others. One can connect with others about things that they have in common. Book reviews are something that many blog about so others can see if a book is good or bad before they decide to read it.

Web based tech. tools are very useful in everyday life and can also help for work or school. I do not know what I would do without them.

SPRING BREAK

This spring break I had a lot of fun. This year’s spring break did not seem as long as it usually is, but it was a whole week out of school.

I stayed at home for most of my break and had friends over every day. If friends were not at my house, I was at there house. Some of my friends live a little out of the way, so I wasted gas.

My friend from Little Rock came down to visit for three days also. We went to Jonesboro and Little Rock, each for a day, to eat and shop. While we were at the house, we just played Xbox live, ate, and went to the movies.

I did not do anything very exciting. Spring break defiantly went by way to fast. I wish it could have been a lot longer.

Thoughts on Holocaust

The Holocaust brings many bad images into my mind of thousands of people being murdered. The majority of people who were murdered were Jews.

Hitler believed that blond haired blue eyed people were the dominate race. He thought that the Germans were the best race and his ideas were like those of Charles Darwin’s about only the strong could survive. He and his soldiers murdered thousands of people and started a war. Hitler kept Jews in concentration camps to do work until he eventually killed them using various techniques such as burning alive or shooting them in the head. Hitler was ruthless and had no second thoughts about killing others.

Hitler’s actions caused a war. I do not like that this event had to take place and wish we could have done more about it.

Thoughts on EOL Exam

The end of level literacy exam was not as hard as others made it seem. Teachers stressed for nothing because this exam proved to be easy.

Reading responses wrote and answered quick and easily. Everything that they wanted you to write about came strait out of the reading. I found it was easier to make four boxes and answer it that way. That way made the responses go a lot faster.

Multiple choice for the reading ask you things strait from the reading which made them easy to answer. There were very few multiple choices, and I got done with them well within the time limit.

The writing multiple choice and open responses were the hardest thing on the test, but the multiple choice was not very time consuming. The open response made for a challenge because they took a while and you only had a certain time limit to do it in.

Overall, this end of level test was not very hard. I did my best on everything and will not have to have remediation because I have confidence that I did well.

Great Gatsby review

F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby entertained me with its unique story. The novel tells of love, materialistic people, and consequence. More people should read this novel because it teaches many life lessons like sometimes you just have to accept that people move on and that bad actions lead to consequences. The author's style is different from most because it uses words that some might not understand completely. Fitzgerald writes very well and educated. His voice is unusual compared to other novels I have read by other people because his writing is very descriptive and not to easy to read.

The novel reads as though the characters are real people. F. Scott Fitzgerald makes the characters have different but distinct personalities, and no character is like another. Gatsby tries to impress others and tries to make others like him by having nice things. Nick is a person that is the main character and through which the story is told. He is different from Gatsby because he is not very materialistic and does not live among the rich in East Egg where Gatsby lives.

The Great Gatsby takes place in West Egg and East Egg, New York and after the war. This setting is not at all like the world I know. This all took place before I was born and no one had computers or modern telephones.

My novels plot consists of some love affairs. Before the war, Gatsby and a woman named Daisy were together and she promised to wait on him. When Gatsby returned, she was with another man. Nick soon moved to West Egg from the Midwest. At this time, Gatsby was still in love with Daisy even though she had moved on. Gatsby soon meet Nick and asked him to try to get Daisy in the same room with him. Gatsby and Daisy then talked and reestablished their love for one another. Then bad things start to happen and you will just have to read the novel to find out what happens.

I liked this novel and approve it to anyone looking for a good read. It is not the easiest book to read in one's spare time, but teaches life lessons that many do not know that should know. The Great Gatsby reads great and is an all around good book.

BOOK REVIEW!!!

Goal!: The Dream Begins by Robert Rigby hypnotized me by his fascinating story of Santiago. This novel discusses how Santiago went from being another kid on the streets with a dream to play professional soccer to actually getting a shot to play with the professionals. This novel teaches the lesson that dreams can come true if your willing to work hard enough to make them reality. Robert Rigby style is strait forward and he doesn't go on and on about one specific topic.

Santiago lives in L.A. He works hard because his family does not have very much money. Santiago also loves soccer with a passion. He is one of the best in the city and finally gets noticed when a man from England is watching one of his games and gives him a trial to play for a soccer club in England called New Castle United.Just like anyone in the real world, Santiago has to work to get money. He works more than ever so he can pay for a flight to England.

The setting starts off in Mexico when Santiago and his family are escaping to America when he was a little kid. Then the novel skips to when he is a teenager in L.A. The story stays there until he flies to England and that is where most of the novel takes place.

After he arrives in England, he has to work harder than ever to make the team. When he does finally make the team, some problems start to occur with his family back home and for him while he is there. Then when he finally gets to play, he makes something amazing happen that finally makes his dad proud of him for once, and soon after a bad thing happens to someone close to him. Sadly I can not give away what happens.

This novel is suspenseful and a good read for anyone who likes soccer. It is an easy read and quickly draws you in. There is also a second book, but I have not read it yet. I recommend this book to anyone wanting a good read about soccer.

Materialistic

Too many people are materialistic now. Being materialistic means that you are more concerned with material things other than your own values. People now think that they have to fit in to what everyone else is doing and think that they have to have everything that everyone else has. The media consumes us now through the TV, magazines, and advertisements in hope to make us want things that we do not need.

This issue used to not be a problem. Everyone used to work for everything and just got what they actually needed in life, but now that has changed. People spend money on worthless possessions just to look better, show off, and for no reason but just to have them sometimes. Too many now have changed their values.

People focus more on their wants more than their needs. This gets many people into financial holes that they can not get themselves out of. More people need to think twice about what they think about buying or wanting and remember that their needs need to come before their wants. Materialistic people often start judging others based on what they have. This causes many to be like them. Most of our society has turned into being materialistic lately.
